Do people have ideas or ideas have people?

We humans have always been confused with existence and our life in general, but thanks to an avalanche of information, never has humanity been this confused. Life has become insanely complicated and we know not why. We seem to have so much and yet we feel so hollow inside. In the haze, we wander around struggling to make sense of our lives, maintain sanity and stability.  We look outwards to the exterior of what we can see, touch, smell, hear and taste for answers. We care not or dare not look within where lie answers. Some of us focus on family, others on relationships, some on wealth and others on power and influence, etc. etc. Our unease compelling us to constantly search.  The search for an idea about the meaning of our lives inevitably leads us to various ideologies (a system of ideas and beliefs). Because we do not know, we have to believe and belief is always blind.  Whatever the 'ism be it political, religious, etc, like a lost and drowning individual who s...

Preparing the young for life

R to L: We brothers. Varinder, Gurvinder, Parvinder and late Paramjeet with visitors from Bendix Corp. (1984) It is a fallacy, to believe that merely sending our children to school and college, will prepare them for life.  There is no perfect way to prepare the young, but parents and family can play a powerful role, in successfully preparing the young for life.   An approach that facilitates both success and  happiness is to enrich the lives of the young.  To not stifle them in our bosom, but  expose  them to life as early as is safe and possible.  This enables the young to learn at the more impactful formative phase of life.  It usually instils in them a sense of independence born out of learning to take responsibility for their thoughts, actions and results. The young should be acclimatised to the real world at an early age and this is the responsibility of the elders. If we fail to do this,  ' The young ...

Chasing Dogs & Stalking Cats.

I advise and assist various individuals and organisations on improving their performance and luckily I frequently achieve good results. I wonder what my students and clients would say if they learnt that some of my theories came from observing animals? We may claim that man is intellectually a more evolved creature, yet deep down we still possess many animalistic tendencies and therefore act as programmed by our survival instincts and social conditioning. Here is an example from my own life. Exceptional circumstances demand exceptional responses. Desperate people drowning in problems will reach out at anything and everything they can grasp to stop them from sinking. Not long ago I experienced a painful separation from my brothers, the loss of my business and all my savings. Getting a job was not for me. I am too independent spirited to be dictated to. Desperately I sought new opportunities and avenues for survival and revival. I pursued almost every opportunity that ca...

Death is natural.

A year ago a very dear uncle passed away. I had gone to meet him a couple of days before he passed away.  It is always painful to see a loved one approaching their end. My uncle just lay there very calmly and composed as if in a deep sleep. I said a silent prayer for this kind and wonderful man who has brought joy to many people in his life. I prayed that he be allowed to go from this world with dignity and in the natural way. The family sat dignified and composed,  only the stooped shoulders, dark patches under the red eyes revealed the deep anguish within their hearts. They were practical and respectful of my uncle to know when to stop fighting and to yield to God's will. My mind raced across the past to review the passing away of other people and even organisations. Just like people, organisations also have a life. This life should be loved, nurtured and developed to grow and thrive,  and then be allowed to die respectfully when its time is up. Drive...
