Showing posts with the label humanity

The eighth wonder is, swallowing the world.

There is so much beauty, and wonder in the universe, but it seems, we spend most of our lives, wondering, 'What is wrong with the world?' Nothing and yet everything. Nothing is wrong with Nature and Creation, its exquisite and unfathomable. So what we do not understand, we condemn. Humankind, now that is a completely different matter, for here, everything seems to be wrong. Which leads us to the question, 'What is the root cause of all that is wrong?' The 'will to power', the desperate and insatiable desire to dominate all that we humans set our eyes on or even conceive, is the root cause of human suffering. With time the methods and approach to acquiring power and dominating has changed and  grown more sophisticated. However two fundamental approaches remain unchanged, wealth and force. Both are transient, and temporary, but that has never stopped the human animal from relying on them. Unfortunately other great human qualities of friendship, compa...

'Chokra' Boys and Coconuts

Historically, it has always been that, a small minority group lands up ruling the majority.  Take the case of Britain's rule over India. With just 40,000 British soldiers and 1600 British Civil Servants, Britain a relatively small island, located 7,000 kms away, ruled the undivided Indian subcontinent of [ 300 million people , enabling it to extract US$45 Trillion of wealth for themselves from India in a mere 173 years (1765 -1938). The British were able to achieve this remarkable feat only because of their employing a large number of Indian soldiers and civil servants. Such Indians, are also known as 'Coconuts' because they are brown on the outside, white on the inside. Indian in looks but British in thinking and attitude. The British understood that Indian education and society was at the centre of India's fabulous prosperity. Thus millennia old Indian education institution of Gurukals that taught a variety of subjects in traditional Indian languag...

Education without awakening is toxic

What we call education, in most institutions is actually only training. Training, does not require awakening. Even a wild beast can be trained.  After training, one just learns to perform as programmed. A mind trained is easy to drive. It exists to please the trainer, be it right or wrong, moral or immoral. Programming, can make one believe in absurdities, and those who believe in absurdities can commit great atrocities and crimes against not only humans but all of creation. We humans amongst all known creatures have the gift of consciousness and imagination.  We can review the past and imagine the future and the consequences of our thoughts and actions.  A mind merely trained, cannot comprehend the consequences of its thoughts and actions neither the past or of the future. An awakened mind can simultaneously both lead and be led. An awakened mind flourishes to always do what is right, respectful and beneficial to everyone and everything. Only when we awake...

Laughter of Sages and Preachers

"One of the big differences between a genuine sage and a preacher is gaiety. When the sage laughs it is a belly laugh; when the preacher laughs, which is all too seldom, it is on the wrong side of the face." ~ Henry Miller ______________________________ Humanity has always struggled to understand Creation, and Man's place in it. Creation is so infinitely vast and complex that it is impossible to understand, but it has not stopped man from trying.  Some wise and enlightened beings had credible answers, and this illuminated many minds and souls. Some of this wisdom was retained in the memories of others and they in turn wrote many texts, which in turn repeatedly produced more memories and texts. Mankind has already drowned in an ocean of memories, texts and analysis. Teachers that came earlier had themselves experienced much. They considered teaching a calling, and they shared their wisdom freely and widely,  in addition to their usually working at some h...

Awesome Bharat

On this Republic day of 26th January, let us all step back for a moment and  admire some  awesome facts about a magnificient land. We the people have  to listen to own hearts and  rediscover our greatness to build a better India  and a better world The challenges we face our immense and probably more than anywhere  else in the world.  We are surrounded by an unruly, violent and dangerous  Pakistan, a  beligerent and  aggressive China and a ravaged Myanmar.  Yet it is even more astounding that the most diverse nation on Earth, with  hundreds of  languages, all religions and cultures, is not only surviving, but  thriving. Bharat the nation we know as India. Land of spirituality, tolerance, compassion, diversity, wisdom and wealth, where  Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism were born, which is the sec...
